New transitional home empowers nonprofit to provide stable housing to local families
As a leading national builder of attainable single-family homes, Clayton recognizes that a child’s future begins with a safe and stable home environment. Today, as part of its broader partnership with Family Promise, Clayton is announcing the donation of a beautiful modern manufactured home from its Tempo collection to Family Promise of York County in Rock Hill, S.C. The home will be used as transitional housing, which provides housing stability for local families who are leaving shelters and need additional case management before moving into permanent housing.
"A transitional home provides a safe place for families in our community who are working hard to overcome homelessness,” said Leslie Starnes, Executive Director, Family Promise of York County. “This home will not only support the current family in their journey but will also serve as a vital resource for many others in need for years to come. Together with Clayton, we are making a lasting impact and offering hope to those at risk in our community.”
In 2019, Clayton and Family Promise established a partnership program, called A Future Begins at Home, focused on preventing families from experiencing the trauma of homelessness.
Clayton supports Family Promise’s homelessness prevention and stabilization goals through innovative grants to Family Promise’s Affiliates as well as home donations. Since its inception, A Future Begins at Home has served over 25,000 families and will donate its 18th home by the end of the year.
The home donated to Family Promise of York County is from Clayton’s Tempo series, with 1,140 sq. ft., 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Tempo homes feature all drywall interiors, Craftsman-style details, energy-efficient features and open living spaces that make them ideal to meet the evolving needs of families.
It is also an eBuilt® home, built to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Zero Energy Ready Home™ specifications and estimated to significantly save homeowners on annual energy costs1. eBuilt homes are optimized with energy-efficient features, including a Rheem® hybrid water heater, low-E windows with argon gas, ENERGY STAR® certified appliances, LED lighting throughout, an ecobee® smart thermostat and additional insulation.
The home was built at the Clayton Rockwell home building facility in North Carolina, and Clayton Homes of Rock Hill, SC, completed the project and furnished the home. The two Clayton teams aim to provide an energy-efficient, stylish home for Family Promise and future residents, while also creating a comforting and inspiring living space.
“Our area needs more attainable housing options, and the lack of inventory is making it tough for families in South Carolina,” said Chris Deshazer, General Manager at Clayton Homes of Rock Hill. “Working on a project with Family Promise is very rewarding because we know they will use this donation to support local families for years to come.”
This is the third home Clayton has donated to Family Promise affiliates located in South Carolina.
