Troy and Diane Melton decided to escape the harsh winters of the Blue Mountains in Oregon, so they set out to build their dream home on a piece of property they owned on the western side of the state. See how their customized manufactured home fits their needs and land perfectly.
The Meltons had enjoyed many years living on their five acres perched in the mountains in northeastern Oregon, but they decided to make the move to what they call the “wet side” in the western part of the state. Because they already had the land, it was time to find a permanent home so they could make the move and enjoy it.
After considering various manufactured housing companies, Troy and Diane found a home they liked, but they weren’t ablet o customize it to fit their needs.
“We looked at [the floor plans], and we originally put money on another home from another manufactured company, but it wasn’t customizable,” said Troy.
Through their research, they eventually found themselves at Clayton Homes of Albany.
“I’m pretty decisive about things, so we went to Clayton Homes of Albany a couple times, looked at the plans, and got the process going,” said Diane. Now it was time to build a home that would perfectly fit the shape and layout of their land. They chose the Dream home model and customized many aspects to suit their needs and preferences.
“I love having the back open with the glass wall,” mentioned Diane when asked about her favorite feature. “We can see the local fireworks, and it’s really nice.”
Another favorite for Diane is how much space they have. After living in their RV for about 2 years while their home was being built, she loves having room to stretch out.
Their new home doesn’t just offer space, but it is energy efficient as well, with good insulation and solar panels.
“It’s so well insulated, we really don’t have to run the AC much,” said Diane. “Usually, we can open up the windows, and it keeps things perfectly nice. I love the energy efficiency and having the solar [panels] makes that sustainable.”
When you walk into the Meltons’ home, you will immediately feel a reflection of their personal style. They customized virtually everything, from the layout of the rooms to the home exterior’s color, which is the same color as their last three houses. The paint color was the first thing they purchased for their home, and it set the tone for the rest of the home’s style.
Along with the color of the home, you’ll quickly see their passions come to life as you walk through. The couple says they’ve been able to “spoil each other” and build a life where they can share their passions, including music. Troy plays guitar and has a display of his collection of instruments and equipment.
And even though all the custom features they added meant their home took time to build, the outcome was everything they had hoped for.
“The house totally suits us,” said Diane. And now with their forever home complete, they’re ready to enjoy every moment of it.
