Once a Clayton Homeowner, Always a Clayton Homeowner

Clayton homeowners Diane and Harold Wood purchased a Norris home in 1991 and lived in it for 25 years. They had originally moved into their Clayton Built® home to be close to Diane's mother-in-law. However, when Harold's mother passed away in early 2016, the couple started considering what their next step in life should be.

After they debated what to do next, they decided to stay on their family farm. However, they wanted a new home and decided they should build their next home on a beautiful ridge on their property. They considered building a new site-built home but would have had to cut out certain features they wanted in order to make the home fit their budget.

"Why would we take away things to build a stick-built house when we can buy one that has everything we wanted?" Diane said.

The Wood Family's Perfect New Manufactured Home

Because they knew all that a manufactured home could offer from their years of living in a Norris home, a Clayton Built® brand, the Wood family ended up choosing to build a new manufactured home on their family farm.

"We weren't interested in looking at any other house because we had such a good experience," Diane said. "We knew they'd made all kind of improvements since we bought our first [Norris] in 1991, so we definitely wanted to go with Clayton and Norris."

The home they chose is The Cameron model by Norris. They ordered their new home in February 2017, and now it overlooks the family farm from the ridge they have dubbed "Wood Ridge".

"It feels like we're on vacation every day," Diane said.

Picking Out Home Features

Diane and Harold were able to work with their home consultant to pick out custom home features to help them personalize their Clayton Built® home.

They chose a raised roof, which gave them nine-foot ceilings in the middle of the home, a dual-toned, coffered tray ceiling in the kitchen and another coffered tray ceiling in the primary bedroom.

"I'm not a crier," Diane said. "But if I was, I would cry over this kitchen."

They chose laminate flooring for the kitchen and living room of their new dream home. They also upgraded the home to make it slightly larger and chose a large primary bathroom shower with a bathtub instead of a shower with a glass door.

A Great Buying Relationship

The Woods loved working with their home consultant to personalize their home. They often texted with their home consultant to talk about product and color options. The couple really appreciated when one of the Clayton team members at the home center checked out the property before the home was delivered. They also appreciated that home center team members checked in on them after the on-site construction was completed.

"The folks from Clayton came by a couple of times after the house was put in also just to make sure everything looked good," Diane said.

From beginning to end, the Wood family has loved owning manufactured homes and getting all the features they want in a budget that works for them.
